Laneige Water Sleeping Mask Review

Hey everyone! I just got back to campus for school so as I’m adjusting this is going to be a pretty brief post. I have some really great content planned but for now hopefully, you find this review interesting!

I recently reviewed the Laneige Laneige BB Cushion and absolutely loved it. I decided to venture into their skincare line with a sleeping mask. Personally, I believe a sleeping mask is just a moisturizer that wanted a fancy title. This fancy moisturizer really did do its job. I have some dry patches on my face, and after continuous use of this, it really helped. I do realllly love the Dr Brandt Recovery Sleeping Mask .

However, This mask is double in price and has a lot more claims than Laneige’s I really do enjoy this as a moisturizer that packs a punch while being light and comfortable on the skin. It has little fragrance and is this beautiful light blue color. Love the packaging.

How much is in a jar?

2.3 fl. oz.

How Much?

$25

What would you compare it to?

It has the same presentation and feel as the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator. For about the same size, it’s also half the price.

Luxury battle: tatcha water cream and SK-II RNA power (and a great dupe!)

Hey guys! I’m introducing a new series to my blog tentatively called luxury battle! Do I have enough money to buy these obscenely expensive products? No. BUT I do get a lot of trial sizes and samples from Sephora. I tried each of these products for a week and will let you know what I thought!

Disclaimer: I do not think spending this kind of money is worth it. I have a drugstore cheat sheet on finding amazing products for a low price coming soon. This series is just for fun.

First up: Tatcha the water cream

Price: $68

Size: 1.7

I got a .34 ounce version of this product, and it smells SO GOOD. It has tatchas signature smell. But no one pays 68 dollars just for the smell of a moisturizer. It gets a lot of hype, especially in the beauty community: it’s light in texture and melts in the skin a lot more seamlessly that the SK-II moisturizer. Both products claim to be anti-aging. Tatcha addresses this claim by using “green tea, rice, and algae” (Sephora.com)

Up next, SK-II RNA power face cream

Price: $230

Size: 2.7 ounces

that’s right 230 dollars. That’s 57 Starbucks drinks I could get. It does have another ounce extra on tatcha. Meaning it would be about $144.81 for comparative purposes with tatchas size. It’s a lot of money for a moisturizer. They use pietra, which is in every SK-II product, as well as their “RNA complex” which is soy and yeast proteins.

The consistency is somehow lighter than tatchas. It doesn’t melt into the skin as quickly, but it’s airy and so light it feels luxurious putting it on.

Which did I like better?

I can’t say which is better in anti aging, because I only used them for a week each and also don’t have any wrinkles yet. However, I really felt a difference in my skin with SK-II’s moisturizer. I loved using up this trial size and wish it was about $230 dollars cheaper. For the price the water cream is a much better choice. Still expensive, but sill gives off an airy texture that feels luxurious.

Dupes if you want…

Similar airy texture: January labs Moisture balancing lotion

Same texture with anti-aging benefits: Olay 7 in 1 daily moisturizer

Summer makeup “no makeup” routine

As much as I love makeup, it seems like when I put on a full face of makeup in the summer my face suffocates. We’re in the middle of summer and I don’t have the time to spend that long doing my makeup. I’ve found a really good makeup routine for the summer time that makes me look and feel awake and glowy without too much product.

Laneige B.B. cushion hydra radiance SPF 50

I did a wear test last week. And this completely replaced my tinted moisturizer I’ve been using. I just tip a wet beauty blender into the cushion, and get an even skin tone while feeling like nothing is on my face. If you want me full review and thoughts, you can read that here

Becca Beach lip and blush tint

I got this in the shade guava and i absolutely love this. It is light and gives the most natural blush that is perfect for light skin types. They have several other shades to accommodate all skin types and guava was the perfect shade for me. A little goes a long way so although it’s in small packaging it lasts a long time.

Supergoop! Glow stick sunscreen spf 50

I keep this in my purse at all times. This just adds such a natural glow on my cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and shoulders. I love to reapply this through the day, it is light, glides on, and is perfect for on the go.

Too faced chocolate soleil matte bronzer

It’s summer so naturally I want to warm up my face to give it an inner glow. This is really the only powder product I use for a makeup no makeup look. This is because although powder makes your makeup lady it can really dry the skin down. The milk chocolate shade is amazing it’s not too orange and just warms up the face.

Fresh sugar lip treatment sunscreen spf 50

I use this every day when I want to add a little bit of color to my lips while still looking natural. It is hydrating and it protects your lips from the sun! It’s a great product from a great brand.

Pixi vitamin wake up mist

This mist is perfect to set your makeup and use throughout the day to wake your skin up! It’s nourishing and not sticky at all. The only downside is the nozzle on Pixi mists are terrible, but using the product in a different bottle or just spraying farther away from the face gives your skin a dewey awake look.

And that’s it! I love this routine and it only takes me about 5 minutes to do. I am a skincare blog and will have a product review next week, but if you guys ever want more makeup reviews, let me know!

See you next Monday!

Laneige BB Cushion Wear Test – Worth it?

During the summer, the last thing I want is a thick foundation suffocating my skin in the humid heat. I go a lot lighter on my makeup in the summer, and I reluctantly say goodbye to full coverage and say hello to a more natural route. I do have scarring so I don’t expect a bb cream to completely make my problems disappear, but I do expect it to be light and even out my skin tone. The BB cream that I tried out this week and put to the test is Laneige’s BB Cushion Hydra Radiance SPF 50.

How much is it?

$38

What does it do?

Sephora’s website claims that it is “A radiance-enhancing, hydrating version of LANEIGE’s BB Cushion, it’s infused with Melacrusher™ to brighten skin and double-coated pigments to brighten and hydrate.”

Does it do that?

I would say that my skin looked brighter and did feel hydrated the entire day. My makeup usually bunches up around hour 4, and this one stayed pretty even and I didn’t get super dry or greasy at the end of the day.

What’s good about it?

It’s hydrating, brightening, and it feels SO light. It was like I had nothing on all day.

What’s not so good about it?

Although it did give me pretty good coverage for most of my workday, it isn’t going to be perfect for more than 4 hours. It’s a bb cream, and it’s meant to be light, not full coverage. In the pictures I will show you, you’ll notice my scars and redness, especially in my recap video.

Worth it?

I am going to be reaching for this over my IT cosmetics cc cream. It may not have a crazy amount of coverage, However, it did not bunch up (Which is my BIGGEST pet peeve) and I still looked natural at the end of the day. An added bonus was I still was a little less red than usual! Overall, I would say that it was a great BB cream!

What did it look like?

Here’s a video of me on HOUR 12 (don’t expect a bb cream to really be on my face by then) and talk about my thoughts. Also, I know I used vertical camera… next time I’ll do horizontal I promise.

My June Skincare Routine

I’ve made a lot of changes to my skincare routine and I’ve found some products that I’ve completely fallen in love with. Being in the middle of summer meant going lighter and more simple ingredients, creating a skincare regiment that leaves me refreshed and protected.

This will be an overview of my morning skincare routine. My night-time routine hasn’t changed so if you want an overview of that click here!

First is a cleanser that I have talked about, again and again, it’s the Soy Face Cleanser

I’m on Retin-A so I need a cleanser that isn’t harsh on the skin. This cleanser is light and hardly foams, keeping my skin from getting dried out.

I don’t double cleanse in the mornings, but when my skin feels a little gross and in need of an extra step I use Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.

IMG_7840

This balm is still my favorite. I’ve repurchased the full size and it just is a luxurious balm that is a staple for my skin care routine. If you want more info on this I talked about it in my post about cleansers

Next is January Lab’s Daily Brightening Tonic

IMG_7833

This is my daily acid toner! I feel like this really wakes me up and gently exfoliates the skin. January Lab’s has two products I use in my routine now, thanks to an amazing video Caroline Hirons posted with January Lab’s CEO. You can watch it here

I’m currently on the lookout for a slightly stronger acid toner on the days I really need it so let me know if you have any recommendations! However, I really do love this toner and is perfect to use every day.

My favorite step: Hydrating toner! I use the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

I use two layers of this stuff and it never feels sticky. It is hydrating and leaves my skin plump and soft. It doesn’t break me out thankfully. This his minimal scent which is always important for me. I break out really easily to heavily fragranced products so this one is great for my sensitive skin. I used to think hydrating toners were essentially useless. But after layering them and using this one, I am now an advocate for these toners.

I am currently trying out a bunch of hydrating toners (two that are VERY exciting) and I’ll be posting a full review and breakdown at the end of this month so stay tuned!

The oil I’m currently using is Herbivore’s Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil

I did an entire brand overview on Herbivore, and this product is the one out of their lineup that I keep reaching for. I’ve recently purchased a fair amount of oils and this one is the one that I really am enjoying. I have been breaking out recently. This doesn’t really help my hormonal acne. However, the ones I get from eating too much dairy or going on a particularly long road trip are kept at bay with this oil. I highly recommend this for acne prone or oily skin types, it’s been a lifesaver for me!

The moisturizer I am using is January Lab’s Moisture Balancing Lotion

IMG_7845

This is my favorite find of the month. I will be repurchasing this again. I am always on the lookout for new products, and this moisturizer has won my heart (and my money). I cannot stress enough how light and wonderful this feels on my skin. It is amazing for the summer time. It has no scent and is a sensitive, acne-prone skin’s dream! I absolutely love this moisturizer and is my summer staple

Lastly, and most importantly, Dermalogica’s Pure Light SPF 50

IMG_7843

So I love this stuff and plan on using this until it’s gone. I talked about this in my last routine update, and am still using this. HOWEVER, I am done spending 66 dollars on a sunscreen. I’ve been trying four different sunscreens that I am going to be posting about that are much cheaper. I know that this sunscreen targets hyperpigmentation, but I’d rather pay for another product that does that specifically and get a cheaper sunscreen. It’s too soon to share the sunscreens that I’m loving but in next month’s routine update be on the lookout for a new sunscreen.

Bonus Item: Fresh’s Black Tea Firming and De-Puffing eye cream

IMG_7849

Listen, I’m young and eye cream has never been a priority for me. Recently, my eye area has been pretty dry so that changed that. This eye cream was an option on Sephora’s rewards and I got two. I really have enjoyed the luxury of this product and going to be using this stuff up. I will not be purchasing it, mostly because its 68 dollars and eye creams are just not on my priority list. So if you have any suggestions on eye creams that are hydrating that don’t break the bank, let me know in the comments! I do love the thick texture and you can tell this cream is luxurious in every way. The scent smells like its expensive. However, again, it’s just too much for me.

That’s my skincare routine for June! thanks for listening and I’ll see you all next Monday!

Herbivore Brand Review

Featured image taken from herbivores website

Hey everyone! I know I’ve been AWOL this summer, but I’ve been interning all summer (thankfully paid). I’m back and I have so many posts coming your way. My June skincare routine will be posted next Monday and I have some really exciting products to share.

I have been trying herbivore products for the past three weeks. I bought two value sets:

1. True Blue Skin Clarifying Duo $29

This includes their resurfacing clarity mask and their Lapis balancing facial oil

I LOVED the facial oil. Has a very strong smell, but it was light and I really felt like my active pimples time on my face was cut in half.

The face mask gives off the same smell, it’s a fairly thin mask with a dark blue color. I felt like this didn’t really affect my skin but it was a nice cooling mask for when my skin was just looking kind of dull and tired.

2. Hydrate + Glow Natural Skincare Mini Collection $39

If you’re anything like me then you get super excited when a product has the word “glow” in it. I was initially really excited to try on this set versus the clarifying one. It comes with a moisturizer, their regenerating facial oil, a face mist, and a “instant glow” mask. I really enjoyed their face mist, It has a VERY strong rose scent, but the feel of it is so refreshing. The mask was very lightweight and did make my skin glow, however overall I’d say none of these products changed my skin dramatically over the course of a month. I hardly reach for the regenerating face oil (because I adore their balancing one), and the moisturizer is nice and light weight, but I hate fragrance in my moisturizers (personal preference)

Top 3 herbivore products

1. Lapis Oil Balancing Facial Oil

2. Rose Hibiscus Coconut Water Hydrating Face Mist

3. Brighten Pineapple Enzyme + Gemstone Instant Glow Mask

Worth the splurge?

I think both value sets contain a fair amount of product for the price. I think that although the hydrate and glow collection had more, I personally found a lot more benefit from the clarifying duo. If you do not have acne prone skin like mine it might not appeal to you.

Herbivore overall has some nice light products that really feel luxurious. There were some hits and misses, but these products are not agitating at all and a great brand to dabble in (which is why these value sets are so amazing) do beware of the strong fragrances most of these products contain. If you can get past the strong perfume, herbivore contains some promising products and I’m excited to see them grow in the future.

Cleansers Cleansers Cleansers! – Reviews and Recomendations

The beginning of a routine, the foundation of all our skin routines, one of my favorite parts of the day: cleansing!

I feel like cleansing is sometimes underrated in discussions about our skin. With so many serums and essences and moisturizers its easy to forget to explore all the different options there are to cleanse your skin. This step basically sets the stage for the rest of your routine! When I look for a good cleanser(s) I want three things by the end of this step:

  1. No dirt or makeup on my skin
  2. Being clean without stripping my natural oils
  3.  my skin feels soft and ready for the rest of my skincare regimen

In this post, I am going to be discussing my reviews of the different types of Pre-cleansing I tried, and some tips and tricks for cleansing in general!

First, a few tips I have found really helps (DISCLAIMER: This is all from personal experience obviously take this with a grain of salt. This is just what I have found works for me!)

  • Avoid Foam cleansers if you have dry skin! I will be reviewing one for the sake of this post but it can irritate the skin.
  • Pat don’t rub. Please pat your skin dry. As good as it feels to rub a towel or cloth all over your face after cleansing, patting your skin dry will avoid irritating your skin.
  • Don’t be afraid to double cleanse if you’re a makeup lover! I personally double cleanse with balm then my soy face cleanser when I wear makeup. I really feel like its necessary to get every bit of makeup off my face.
  • massage your face while cleansing. Skincare is self-care, and taking the time to give some love to your lovely face can really help you feel better, and your skin feel better
  • Cleanse once or twice a day – Do what’s best for you! There are differing opinions on how often to wash your face. My cleansers I use daily are very light and for sensitive skin, so I do it twice. It’s really up to you but when I do only cleanse once, I’m sure that it’s during the night.
  • Cleanse before And after a workout. Please Please Please do this. Help your skin out by removing any dirt or gunk before you get your groove on. Cleansing before and after ensures your workout doesn’t spark some unwanted pimples (and no one wants that).

The past two weeks I’ve been trying out a Cleansing Balm, Creme, and oil. I used these to take off my make up as a pre-cleanse.

First is the Balm! I used Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – Clinique

Balms have a weird texture that can seem off-putting at first. This stuff got my makeup off really nicely. I could see the makeup just coming off so smoothly. Also, this took off ALL my eye makeup. This is always so difficult. I use the Lights, Camera, Splashes™ Waterproof Mascara – Tarte and it does not wanna come off at the end of the day. The Clinique balm was scentless, did not irritate eyes. (I got some in my eyes one night and it made them dry but didn’t really hurt. Do not recommend these going INTO your eyes, obviously) I really felt like this products got my makeup off the most effective out of the three products I tested.

Overall, pretty satisfied with this product.

Next, Cold Cream Moisturizing Cleanser + Makeup Remover

I got this as a trial size at Sephora and I would say this was an eh product. It wasn’t as effective at getting my makeup off and after using micellar water with a cotton pad I still had some leftover makeup. I massaged and spent time trying to get this product to work, but it just didn’t do it for me. Especially when this product markets itself as a makeup remover, I felt like it just did an okay job compared to the oil and balm. It did leave my skin softer than the other two pre-cleanse options. However, I pre-cleanse to get my makeup off, and I felt that this really only did an okay job for me. This would work for really sensitive skin, it didn’t break me out, and it felt nice on the skin. Also, someone who uses minimal makeup may benefit from this product.

Finally, MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil Mini

I felt like this product removed my makeup pretty well while not leaving my skin feeling as stripped as the balm did. However, I did find my skin had tiny bumps and my skin did not seem to like it the next morning whenever I did try it the night before. I looked at the Sephora reviews and saw that others had this same problem. I loved how it made my skin feel and it worked well, however, I would not recommend this for acne-prone skin like mine.

Overall, each product had its benefits, but the one I’m going to be continuing to use will be the cleansing balm from Clinique. it really made me feel clean and ready for the rest of my skin routine!

My Skincare Routine – April

When I tell you my skin was awful a year ago, trust me, it was AWFUL.

Now I am dealing with scarring, hyperpigmentation, and extremely sensitive skin that will blow if it comes into contact with anything it does not like. Right now I am pretty Comfortable with my skincare routine. I am currently on Tretinoin Gel (0.01%), so I’ve been on the lookout for things that are really hydrating so let me know if you have any suggestions! I am always updating my skincare routine and I will go over my current day and night routines!

Left to right:

Jelly Cleanser – Drunk Elephant

The feeling of this cleanser is very nice to the skin. It’s extremely light on the skin and has a minimal scent. It’s almost TOO light. I feel like this doesn’t really cleanse my skin and If you like a 2-in-one makeup remover and cleanser this is not for you. My one big issue is this cleanser is the cap. You have to turn it to open it up and you just squeeze. This brand, in particular, has really weird ways of getting the product out. It feels less sanitary and just leaves a weird residue on the cap. Although I love the feel of this cleanser, after this I’m switching back to the tried and true Soy Face Cleanser

PowerBright TRx Pure Light SPF 50 – Dermalogica

Listen, I know this is ridiculously expensive for a sunscreen (66 DOLLARS) I realize that. Yet, being on Retinol Cream and having serious scarring, I knew I needed something that would moisturize and protect my skin. This does that, feels super light, and it specifically made to “prevent future discoloration.” I really feel like this protects the skin and gives me the moisture I need.

Beauty Water – Son & Park

This might just be water but dang does it make my skin feel good. I use this as a toner after my cleanser and if just is so light and my skin just seems to soak up this stuff. Also, you get a ridiculous amount of product so it’ll last you awhile (unless you’re like me and use this multiple times a day). I put this in a spray bottle so whenever my skin feels particularly dry I’ll use it and I really enjoy it. It’s basically scentless and great for sensitive skin.

Rise + Glow Duo – Drunk Elephant

So I originally got a set of the Intensive Hydration Gel & the C-Firma Day Serum and I just ran out of the latter. I really only use this on spots I know tend to get dehydrated and it feels and smells pretty nice. I really enjoyed the C-Firma Day Serum. After 3 weeks I really saw my scars fade and It really makes me interested in trying out other Vitamin C serums (Testing one right now that I will make a separate review). I suggest getting this duo if you’re interested in the Drunk Elephant brand without investing in the full products which are extremely expensive.

Night

Water Luminous Jelly Cleanser – JMsolutions

This makes my skin SO smooth. I added this in here because I got this in an Ipsy bag and I keep reaching for it at night. I wait 30 minutes after cleansing before I apply my Retinol gel, so having a cleanser that is light and leaves my skin soft and moisturized is super important. It having Hyaluronic Acid for sure helps my skin and I will repurchase again.

  • For those wondering at night, I wait for 30 after cleansing to let my skin calm down and then apply my Retinol Creme so I avoid irritation. I also do moisturize after this but I wait for 45min-hour at LEAST. It’s important to leave time for the gel to work!!!

Sunflower Sweets Serum – Bahi

This product was everywhere at one point – and for good reason. The first night I put this on my skin looked a m a z i n g. It does hydrate my skin and whenever I put this on the next morning my scars are a lot less noticeable. It smells really awful and WILL get on your pillowcase if you procrastinate your skincare until right before bed if you’re like me. If you can handle the smell I highly recommend this product.

  • I apply this after my moisturizer. This seems to work better on my dry skin versus before so that’s just what I find works best.

Lala Retro Whipped Cream – Drunk Elephant

I love love love this moisturizer. Its crazy thick and I know many people prefer light moisturizers. For me, at night, I want a nice moisturizer when I have time to just let it absorb into my skin. The packaging is really weird and you have to press down to get product. The packaging doesn’t allow you to see how much product is left so it’s more of just a guessing game. The smell is minimal and it is not sticky at all. I highly suggest using this as a night moisturizer.

Transforming Walnut Scrub – OLEHENRIKSEN

I use this in the shower and oh my does this smell good. I use this twice a week because I’m wary of exfoliation while on a Retinol but it doesn’t agitate my skin what so ever. It isn’t necessarily as effective as other exfoliants (I’m a huge advocate for chemical exfoliates) but for the experience it just makes me feel so pampered and my skin always feels fresh and rejuvenated after using this.

That’s my skincare routine for April! I really have enjoyed a lot of these products and feel like the past month I have had minimal breakouts and my skin texture has been pretty smooth. After Finals I will probably be posting skin updates not just when I use new products. I’m planning on transitioning into a more summer oriented routine and will keep you guys updated!
